Selecting the Correct Electric Warehouse Equipment: A Guide

When it comes to equipping your warehouse, there are many factors to consider. One of the most important is selecting the correct electric warehouse equipment. Electric warehouse equipment is essential for efficient and safe operations. But with so many different types of electric warehouse equipment available, it can be difficult to know which one is right for your needs. In this guide, we’ll provide an overview of the different types of electric warehouse equipment and offer tips on how to select the right equipment for your specific needs.

Types of Electric Warehouse Equipment

Electric Forklifts: Electric forklifts are one of the most common types of electric warehouse equipment. They are used to move heavy loads around the warehouse and can be used both indoors and outdoors. Electric forklifts are quieter than their gas-powered counterparts and produce fewer emissions, making them a popular choice for many warehouses.

Electric Pallet Jacks: Electric pallet jacks are another type of electric warehouse equipment. They are used to move pallets around the warehouse and are smaller than forklifts. Electric pallet jacks are ideal for smaller warehouses or for moving smaller loads.

Electric Reach Trucks: Electric reach trucks are used for moving loads to high storage areas. They are designed to reach higher than traditional forklifts and are ideal for warehouses with high ceilings.

Electric Stackers: Electric stackers are used for stacking pallets and are similar to electric pallet jacks. They are designed for smaller loads and are ideal for warehouses with limited space.

Factors to Consider When Selecting Electric Warehouse Equipment

Load Capacity: The load capacity of the equipment is one of the most important factors to consider. Make sure you select electric warehouse equipment that can handle the weight of your heaviest loads.

Pallet Type:  The pallet you are currently using within your operation (whether they be closed pallets with bottom boards around the fork pockets, or open pallets and no bottom board) will have a bearing on the type of equipment that would be best suited to your requirements.

For example, a standard 1200mm x 1000mm ( or closed pallet) would generally only be OK with equipment that has a standard fork profile ie Counterbalance or Straddle Stacker, or Reach Truck.  Equipment such as a standard Stacker, will generally have a wrap-over fork and would rip apart a closed pallet bottom board if lift attempted. For info, Standard Stacker only generally recommended for open bottomed euro pallets (1200mm x 800mm)

Operating Environment: Consider the operating environment when selecting electric warehouse equipment. Will the equipment be used indoors or outdoors? Will it be used in a wet or dry environment? Make sure you select equipment that is appropriate for the operating environment.

Operating Space: The size of your warehouse and the operating space available will also impact your choice of electric warehouse equipment. Make sure you select equipment that is appropriate for the size of your warehouse and the space available for operating the equipment.

Maintenance Requirements: Consider the maintenance requirements when selecting electric warehouse equipment. How often will the equipment need to be maintained? What is the cost of maintenance? Make sure you select equipment that is easy to maintain and has reasonable maintenance costs.

Cost: Finally, consider the cost when selecting electric warehouse equipment. Make sure you select equipment that is within your budget but also meets your needs.

In conclusion, selecting the right electric warehouse equipment is essential for efficient and safe operations. Consider the load capacity, operating environment, operating space, maintenance requirements, and cost when selecting equipment. By taking these factors into account, you can select the right electric warehouse equipment for your specific needs.
